Moving from procrastination to progress!
Many of you know I am a podcast fan.
So I am super pleased to announce that my own podcast, Take on Board, will be coming to a pod channel near you very soon! I've been having a great time interviewing a range of awesome women directors. I'll bring you weekly tips, tricks and tools about how to get on a board or, once you’re on a board, how to be your best in the boardroom. But this blog isn’t about my new podcast.
It’s about procrastination.
See, launching a new podcast was my goal for 2018. Yep, it was my goal for last year.
And here we are in mid 2019 and it’s still not launched!
How did I get from procrastination to progress?
Three steps: expert advice, attention, accountability.
Part of the reason I didn't make progress last year was I was overwhelmed by all the things I had to do. And as it was all new to me, I didn’t understand the technical aspects of some of those things I needed to do.
To overcome this, I got expert advice. I appointed a podcast producer. And with that came a steady stream of expert advice - what to buy, how to set it up, templates, ideas.
She then helped me on the second key to progress – attention and focus. She gave me one task at a time - choosing the title and music, buying equipment, organising art work, setting up interviews. One to tick off each time.
Last but not least - and this is key for me - accountability. We had weekly meetings. She would follow me up on what I said I would do.
As a coach, I often provide this support to clients – advice on what challenges and opportunities they are facing, attention on the most important things and accountability to ensure they do what they say they are going to do.
